As an educator of 25 years, Germaine Tarver has worked as Senior Director of Acedemics, Supervisor of Literacy, Literacy Coach and Classroom Teacher. Through her years of experience in the field of education, she has acquired a requisite knowledge of literacy that qualifies her to support educators in reaching high levels of effective instruction and school leaders in giving meaningful feedback to teachers.
Germaine has an M.Ed in Administration and Supervision, a B.A. in Music, and a B.A. in Education. She also holds a Principal’s certification.
Throughout Germaine’s years, she has amassed an abundance of knowledge in the teaching of writing and has come to understand the gravity of writing which she deems a life skill that all students must attain. Her toolbox is replete with strategies and resources that help teachers find joy in the teaching of writing and students in the act of writing. She is adept at getting teachers to apply writing strategies and techniques through writing instruction that are engaging and relevant to students’ interests and lives. She is also skilled at helping students nurture the writer within.
Germaine has worked in urban and suburban school districts where she has consistently made noticeable gains in English Language Arts standardized test scores. This record of improvement was NOT achieved by encouraging teachers to increase test prepping strategies. Instead, Germaine worked with teachers and literacy leads to better understand the best practices in reading and writing that transfer. In essence, she strengthened teachers’ abilities to deliver instruction that improved learning.
Germaine Tarver is an Educator’s educator. She is a leader and a listener who understands the intricacies of working with teachers who are also passionate about student success. Germaine knows the value in modeling to ensure common understandings and the pertinence of critical conversations where all are heard and acknowledged.
Germaine Tarver’s career in education has yielded respect from many of her peers, as well as lifelong relationships with numerous educators, parents and students with whom she is still in contact with to this day.
